Do You Need Full Coverage? Oklahoma Requirements

Oklahoma only requires liability. Full coverage adds collision and comprehensive. When the extra cost makes sense, and when minimum liability is enough.

"Full coverage" shows up in almost every insurance conversation, and it still confuses people. In Oklahoma it isn't a legal term. It's shorthand for a common package of coverages.

What people mean by full coverage

Agents usually mean liability plus collision plus comprehensive:

    • Liability: pays others for injury and property damage you cause (required by Oklahoma law)
    • Collision: pays to repair your car after a crash
    • Comprehensive: pays for theft, hail, vandalism, and other non-crash losses

    What Oklahoma requires

The state only requires liability at 25/50/25 limits. That is the cheapest legal option, and quotes at Genesis Auto Insurance often start near $35/month.

    When full coverage makes sense

    • You have a loan or lease (lenders almost always require it)
    • The car is worth more than about $5,000 and you want it repaired or replaced after a loss
    • You couldn't write a check to replace the car if it were totaled

    When liability-only is enough

    • The car is older and paid off
    • Its market value sits under roughly $3,000–$5,000
    • You have cash set aside to replace it

Pick the mix that fits the car

At Genesis Auto Insurance, we price liability-only and full-coverage options side by side so you see the difference before you buy. Visit a Tulsa or OKC office, or ask for a quote in person.
