On June 17, 2023, thunderstorm winds over 100 mph (measured near 31st & Peoria) caused at least $160 million in damage across Tulsa County, according to the National Weather Service. On May 19, 2025, golf-ball-size hail damaged homes, businesses and vehicles across the city. Liability insurance, the legal minimum, pays for damage you cause to other people. It never pays for hail, a fallen limb or a flooded engine on your own car. Only comprehensive coverage does. If your car is paid off, ask your agent to quote it both ways.
INCOG, the regional planning council, lists Sheridan Road from Pine to 15th Street, the stretch past our East 11th office, among Tulsa County's ten highest-injury corridors. It had 99 fatal or injury crashes from 2017 to 2021. Oklahoma's minimum policy pays no more than $25,000 for one person's injuries. The Insurance Research Council estimates 12% of Oklahoma drivers were uninsured in 2023. Both are reasons to ask about higher limits and uninsured motorist coverage.
Tulsa Police counted 2,314 auto thefts in 2024. From January through July 2025 there were 1,015, compared with 1,305 in the same months of 2024. A stolen car is covered by comprehensive, not liability.
Oklahoma replaced the SR-22 certificate in 2009. Your proof is now an owner's or operator's policy (not a binder), plus the reinstatement fees: $300 on Service Oklahoma's no-insurance form. Service Oklahoma closed its Tulsa Eastgate office on November 14, 2025. In-person reinstatements in the Tulsa area now happen at Tulsa at The Farm, 6570 E 51st St (about a mile east of our 51st Street office), or in Broken Arrow. You can also reinstate online or by video visit. The Farm is open Saturdays 8:00–1:00. Buy the policy first, then take your insurance card to Service Oklahoma.
Oklahoma's Uninsured Vehicle Enforcement Diversion program has used plate-reading cameras, including fixed cameras in Tulsa since at least 2020, to flag uninsured vehicles. Owners get a notice by mail and a $190 program fee.

No. Oklahoma stopped using the SR-22 in 2009. After a no-insurance suspension, your proof is the insurance card for an owner's or operator's policy (a binder doesn't count). If another state, such as Texas, requires you to carry an SR-22, we can file it for you.
